Her Place

The first time I saw her
hurt, the way she
stood lost with fear,
it was I who had a part
in all her tears.
Now I stand in her place
and wish I could take it back.

  2. When I first read this, I thought it was a mother/child relationship. When I read it again, it seemed like it could be a friendship where there was a falling out. Nice writing!

    1. Thank you for stopping by. It was actually about another woman losing her man to me, and then years later me realizing with much regret how she must have felt. Ah, what age teaches us.

  5. Lots of loss, sorrow and regret throughout. Regally sad, if such a term exists, :).

  6. I agree with Draug. This is powerful, Donetta. All the different points of view become clearer (hopefully) with time and experience. Of course, the pain of regret is pointed, but as we take responsibility for our actions, sometimes I think too we need to give ourselves a bit of a break. Really well done to make us all think so much! :))

  7. Whoa! Such intensity and power in these soft, simple words. At first I, too, thought you were writing about your daughter. When I read it again after your explanation to Janna, it took on a whole new feel for me. Either way, this was wonderfully written and stays with the reader. Well done!
